About

Welcome to the Commissariat Store Museum, the headquarters of The Royal Historical Society of Queensland. This is the second oldest building in Queensland, and one of only two convict built buildings surviving in Brisbane. Only the windmill on Wickham Terrace is older, but you’ll find out more about the Windmill on the bottom floor. Building began in 1828, and was finished in 1829. The Commissariat Store was the fifth Storehouse for the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement, which became the free settlement of Brisbane in 1842.

You may visit the points on this tour in any order. We have compiled a suggested tour route, following the numbers and directions, but enjoy the Commissariat Store at your own pace.
