In this artwork we can see two women beheading a man. We can see that one women (Judit) have in her hands a sword and he decapitate Holofernes and the other woman is holding up him. Holofernes died in 1613 and the painting it was created in 1620. The painting is 199 cm x 162’5 cm and the colours that Artemisia Gentileschi used are warm colors.
Actually the artwork stay in Gallerie degli Uffizi. This painting is baroque style. The painting is painted in very dark and warm that express the seriousity of the situation and the tragedy. The blanket is in white to highlight the red blood coming from Oloferne’s neck. The women don’t express any emotion or sympathy for him. We reckon that Oloferne was sleeping when he was attacked by the women. We can see that he doesn’t resists that much because we think that he was stunned due he was sleeping.
