About

This audio guide is for the site where the Hippodrome of Constantinople once stood — now the area is occupied by Sultanahmet Square.

In about half an hour, you will walk approximately 1 kilometre and find yourself at the site of the vanished giant sports arena. Here, 1 500 years ago, extraordinary passions ran high, blood was shed, and fanfares sounded — while today, crowds of carefree tourists from all over the world stroll around and take selfies.

At the beginning and end of the square, you will have to pass through police checkpoints with personal belongings inspections.

Have a pleasant walk!
