The first department store constructed in Leeton in 1913 was in a small building on the corner of this block constructed by H Morel builder, the architect being W H Lumley. The current building was constructed in 1936 over and above the existing building without losing a day’s trade by builder T J Ashton, Leeton, Architect GWA Welch in conjunction with ideas by owner, R L Richards. It traded as S Richards & Co for over sixty years before being taken over by Mates, then Winns Limited. In 1978 it was converted into an arcade before Best & Less converted the majority of the floor space into their business in 2008.
Coloured brick-work, in herringbone pattern above the original entrance are a feature. The small steel framed windows on the upper floor with horizontal lines in contrasting coloured brickwork between the windows are another original feature.
