Abylai (1711-1781) is a great ruler of Kazakh Orda (Kazakh kingdom). People respected him for his wisdom and justness. He was a brave warrior and was famous for knocking Sharashin, the Djungar soldier, dead at the time of Anrakhay battle.
Being a victorious leader and a wise politician he united the parts of Kazakh lands into one state and protected the new state’s independence from the outside enemies.
Abylay khan monument was built in Almaty-2 station square on December 16, 2000.
The monument was made by the team headed by S.Baimagambetov. The team included following members: sculptor K. Satybaldin, architects T.Yeraliyev, Z.Baymagambetov, V.Sidorov, designer M.Erkenov, and caster A.Volkov.
Abylay khan’s personality is now cast in bronze. His monument is vigorous and emotional. Khan is riding a horse; his clothing is rich in ornament; he is carrying battle gear. His imperious gesture orders to move forward. The monument stands on high granite pedestal showing the high status of Abylay khan.
This is the brightest example of Almaty sculpture.
