The Albani were a noble family from Bergamo, their name comes from the village of Albano Sant'Alessandro where they were born. They moved to urgnano in 1535, when Gian Gerolamo Albani, married Laura Longhi, receives the castle as an inheritance. Since then the family remained the owner for almost 350 years, until, in 1896, Count Wenceslao Albani was forced to sell it, due to debts. During the ownership of the Albani family, many famous people visited the castle, such as Fra Michele Ghisleri (who later became Pope Pius V), Ferdinando Francesco, King of Hungary and Cristina Elisabetta di Brusnwitch, wife of King Charles III of Spain.
