Step back to an earlier time with a visit to the Apukshunnubbee Dictrict Choctaw Chief's House in Swink, Oklahoma. This renovated 1837 home of once belonged to Apukshunnubbee District Choctaw Chief Thomas LeFlore and David Randall, the 1902 town founder. The home was built by the US government as prescribed by the 1830 Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek made with the Choctaw Nation, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest house in the state of Oklahoma still on its original site. Restored in 2003, the log house features four rooms with dog trot. Donations appreciated.

Apukshunnubbee District was one of three administrative super-regions comprising the former Choctaw Nation in the Indian Territory. Also called the Second District, it encompassed the southeastern one-third of the nation.

The Apukshunnubbee District was named in honor of Chief Apukshunnubbee , a Choctaw Indian warrior and statesman. He was district chief of the Okla Falaya ("Upper Towns") District in the original Choctaw Nation (Mississippi), and many Choctaws who remembered those times referred to the Apukshunnubbee District as the Okla Falaya District. The other two districts were the Moshulatubbee District and Pushmataha District. Apukshunnubbee District’s administrative seat of government was Alikchi, in Nashoba County, Choctaw Nation. Alikchi is located east of present-day Rattan, Oklahoma and north of Wright City, Oklahoma, in McCurtain County. The territory of the former Apukshunnubbee District is incorporated principally into the present-day Oklahoma counties of Choctaw, McCurtain, and Pushmataha.

Thomas LeFlore, son of Michael and cousin of Greenwood Leflore, was elected chief of Apuckshunubbee District in 1834 for a term of four years and again in 1842 and 1846 for a total of 12 years. Capt. Thomas Leflore was the son of Michael Leflore (who remained in Mississippi), a Frenchman, the brother of Louis Leflore, and Berta Stimaluca Achuka LeFore. He was first cousin of Greenwood Leflore and Brazil Leflore, both Choctaw Chiefs.
