In January 2006 the first stone was laid and the foundation slab of the new cathedral was consecrated. On Easter 2006 the first divine service took place. In 2007 the bells were cast and brought for the cathedral. In August 2009 five domes and crosses of the Assumption Cathedral were consecrated by Metropolitan Methodius.
On January 17, 2010 the city cathedral was consecrated by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
The total area of the Assumption Cathedral is more than 2 thousand square meters. The temple being the largest one in Central Asia can accommodate up to four thousand people.
