In 1972, A famous model from NYC moved to the town of St Augustine where she fell in love with the city, its history and atmosphere, and even Former Mayor James Lindsley. Lindsley was a successful real estate agent at the time, and they were soon married. Sadly, this was almost four months prior to the climax of a horrible feud Athalia had with her neighbor. Athalia was a known animal lover, and when she arrived in St. Augustine, she took in six stray dogs that would constantly bark, as reported by her neighbor Alan Griffin Stanford Jr. Eventually, the feud between Stanford and Lindsley escalated to the point of murder when she was attacked by Stanford between 5:30 and 6 PM on January 23rd, 1974. If you have the heart for it, you can read about the fued and the attack in Jim Mast and Nancy Powell’s “Bloody Sunset in St Augustine”.
