Inside the square, boarded by Aptekarskiy ave., Professora Popova str., Karpovka River
and Aptekarskaya embankments, is situated the Peter the Great Botanical Garden – one
of the oldest botanical museums of St.Petersburg, which contains richest collections of
plants, gathered by famous scientists-travelers Nikolai Prizhevalsky, Pyotr Kozlov,
Grigoriy Potanin, Vsevolod Roborovskiy, Vladimir Komarov and others. The collection
of the Botanical Garden is dedicated to World’s vegetation, the development of the
vegetable world, and the place of plants in humans’ lives. Art and popular science
temporary exhibitions are held in the museum on regular basis. Inside the greenhouses
with the total square of 1 hectare, built in the previous century, are growing tropical and
sub-tropical plants from the whole world. The Botanical garden’ arboretum with the
square of 16 hectares, introduces various plants of our country, other countries of
Europe, Asia and Northern America. There are more than 8 thousands species of plants
inside the Botanical Garden.
