Bukit Saga Waterfall

At the foot of a dense forest, with a trail beginning right by the residential blocks of Cheras, hides the **Bukit Saga Waterfall** – one of the locals’ favorite day-hike destinations.

The route isn’t the easiest: first comes the climb up Bukit Saga itself, and only then the descent toward the waterfall. The trail winds through bamboo groves, trees with roots as thick as your arm, and slippery rocks. Along the way, local hiking enthusiasts have set up several “stations” with benches and even swings made from old tires – little jungle rest stops for weary trekkers.

The waterfall itself isn’t tall, but it’s wonderfully scenic: a narrow stream tumbling into a deep, cool pool. On hot days, the place comes alive – hikers and locals alike kick off their shoes and plunge into the water, with laughter and splashing echoing through the forest. The water is refreshingly cold, making it feel like a reward after the climb.

There are small traditions too. Experienced hikers recommend packing some snacks: the clearing by the waterfall often turns into a picnic spot, where people share fruit or nuts with fellow trekkers. And someone always brings a trash bag to carry out waste – the hiking community here is especially mindful of protecting nature.

Locals like to joke: “If you want the jungle, go to Saga. If you want the jungle with a bonus, go to the waterfall.” And it’s true – a dip in the cool natural pool surrounded by greenery is the perfect way to end a hike in the very heart of Cheras.
