You have arrived to one of the most beautiful streets in Horta. Due to the abundance of water, the bourgeoisie was extremely interested on the land from this place. Many of the houses with impressive architecture that you can see all along Calle de Campoamor, were actually second homes intended for relaxation and for escaping the pollution and heat of Barcelona. As a matter of fact, some of these houses used to have gardens with fountains or lakes, so they were like an Oasis in the desert.
Travel back in time to the 1870's, and while you are walking on this street, observe the architecture from the modernist period. Most of the houses that you will see maintain their original facade and are part of Horta's identity.
Don’t you think it is quite interesting that few kilometers away from Barcelona’s city center, you can find ancient holiday houses with this type of architecture, which have turned into homes for residents. Have you seen something similar in the City?
