Carrer de Santa Anna and les Barcelonetes

Carrer de Santa Anna was the passage towards Santa Oliva and the old path towards La Bisbal del Penedès. This axis of communication became a large commercial area during the 19th century and part of the 20th century. In 1949, the paving stones that characterised this street were placed. It is now the only street of El Vendrell that preserves this type of pavement.

By the end of the 17th century, the surroundings of the walled historic centre were occupied by vegetable patches watered with irrigation channels that came from Tomoví. When the population began to expand outside the wall, this area, known as La Bassa Miquela, took advantage of the path that traversed all the vegetable patches, occupying the side of the road that went to the mills, known as Molí Baix.

Carrer de Santa Anna was constructed throughout the 18th century with buildings built on lands of wealthy families, as it was in the case of Barceloneta Alta and Barceloneta Baixa streets. This street was for many years the longest street in El Vendrell, which concentrated a large number of commerces, such as bakeries, workshops of liberal professions, offices, artists and all kinds of factories. Some of the houses from this street stand out, such as Ca l’Euras, Ca l’Antich and an old country house owned by Cal Paraire.
