The main square of Villa de Leyva is one of the most iconic and spectacular squares in Boyacá and Colombia , with more than 1400 square meters and is considered the largest square in the country. Its colonial aspect represented in the stone floors constitutes one of its main characteristics, being this the main icon of Villa de Leyva. In the center is a stone-carved battery that centuries ago supplied drinking water to the inhabitants of the town. Around the square are the office of the Mayor's Office, museums, hotels, shopping centers, handicraft stores, and other buildings that preserve the architecture of the colonial era. More than 50 annual festivals are held in this square and it is one of the main attractions for tourists from all over the world.
