The lift to Chersky Stone and a picture from the observation deck with the magnificent Baikal view is a must when you come to Listvyanka. You can climb the hill using the chairlift that functions yearly. But you also can climb on foot.  You will walk for 2 kilometers of the asphalt road (it is called terrenkur), wonderful Baikal views will wait for you at the turning points of the path. There is a ski path not far from Chersky stone, it functions during winter. There is a yearly cafe here as well.
You will see the pier of Listvyanka, the beginning of Angara river, Shaman Rock, Port Baikal with the summer Circum Baikal railroad, the peaks of Khamar-Daban crest, and the dome of the solar observatory.
Chersky Stone is one of the mountains of Primorsky Crest, its height is 728,4 meters. It is named after Yan Domenik (Ivan Dementievich in Russian) Chersky. He participated in Polish rebels in 1863 and was sent to Siberia to serve in the army for all eternity when he was 18 years old. He was sent to Omsk first and later – to Irkutsk. Chersky met famous scientists (Alexander Chekanovsky and two geographers, Grigory Potanin and Alexander Middendorform). Chersky started to study natural sciences, collected osteological collections that became the basis for his works about modern and extinct animals in Siberia. Chersky studied geology and osteology in Irkutsk. He described the shores of Baikal, studied the basin of the Selenga River, and formed the base for further study of geology in Eastern Siberia. His scientific work and results of his expeditions made him a renowned researcher of Siberia and Baikal. They were revolutionary in the scientific world, the Russian Geographical Society gave them high appraisal. Ivan Chersky died from tuberculosis during his expedition to Yakutia, it happened when he was upstream of the Indigirka river. Many geographical objects have the name of Chersky as well as the representatives of Siberian fauna.
