Church of San Gregorio Armeno

The Church of San Gregorio Armeno, in a secluded position from the chaotic via dei presepi, is one of the oldest religious buildings in the city of Naples.

According to some, it is in this convent that some of the most delicious Neapolitan recipes were created, such as the Zeppole di San Giuseppe and the famous Pastiera.
The monastic complex, located in today's Piazza San Gaetano and the church of San Lorenzo Maggiore, was built around the year 1000 on the ruins of the temple of Ceres, to welcome the Basilian nuns fleeing from Constantinople with the precious relics of San Liguoro ( San Gregorio).

It is also known as the church of Santa Patrizia, protector of the city together with San Gennaro. The urn with the body of the saint is a pilgrimage destination as well as the ampoule that holds her blood.

The monumental complex of San Gregorio Armeno in Naples is a must for every tourist and art lover.

To reach the church you need to leave the main street behind and go through a somewhat hidden gate, but once you cross the door you are immersed in a world of silence, meditation and spirituality
