Sardines are a much-appreciated fish in the Portuguese gastronomy. You can taste them at the Festival da Sardinha da Costa Nova, organised by the local artisanal fishing association (APARA - Associação de Pesca Artesanal da Região de Aveiro), to celebrate the livelihoods of coastal fishermen.
