Detskoselskaya platform is situated on the territory of Pushkin town.

And now it's time to study the names. Where have we gone? To the Tsarskoye Selo (which is the Tsar’s village) or to the town of Pushkin? In one form or another, all these names are present simultaneously in local topography.

Until 1918, the modern-day town of Pushkin was called the Tsarskoe Selo (the Tsar’s Village). In 1918, a special school was organized here: the school for children of the nobility who were taken from their families and re-educated in the spirit of socialism. Due to this, Tsarskoye Selo was renamed Detskoe Selo (the Children's Village). However, the idea of re-education did not make root. So, 1937 marked the 100-year anniversary of the death of Aleksandr Pushkin (as well as 100 years of Russian railways!). The Russian poet studied at the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, and therefore the city was named after him.

The same mess happened with  railway stations. When the town was renamed Pushkin, the railway station still kept the name “Detskoe Selo” (the Children's Village). And in 2015 already, the name of the railway station in Pushkin went from Detskoe Selo to Tsarskoye Selo. And then “Detskoselskaya” was called the “21st Kilometer Platform”. Are you still with us?

There is one more reason for the children’s name of the platform. Next to it, there is the terminal station of the Children's Railway which is about 10 kilometers long. If you are lucky, you can see a diesel locomotive or even a real steam locomotive that sometimes runs between the stations of this very young railway line of St. Petersburg.
