Here you are! If you have already climbed the bell tower, you have reached the highest point of the tour. From here, the entire route will be downhill.

Starting from the statue at the top of the stairs, it depicts King Dom Dinís. The Parade of Queima das Fitas de Coimbra (Ribbon Burning), a traditional 8 days student festival that happens in May, usually starts from this place and heads towards Garden Arch, which can already be seen from here.

The Monumental Stairs in front of you are one of the most iconic landmarks in Coimbra. a set of 125 stairs that are 113 meters long and 10 meters wide. They were built in the 1940s and 1950s.

During your walk, keep an eye on the neighbor The houses with large emblems or banners, which can be seen throughout the region, are student republics. They date back to the 19th century. They were originally established as a way to provide affordable housing for students. They are self-governing communities of students, and the cradle of many of the students' social activities.
