The graffiti in front of you represents the famous sicilian poet and writer Jacopo da Lentini. This amazing example of street art is due to "Badia Lost &Found" project supported by lentinian association "Italia Nostra" and the work of the artist Roberto Collodoro in 2017.
Jacopo is considered to be the inventor of sonnet. He was born around 1250 in Lentini and was considered as founder of Sicilian lyric poetry, a function recognised by Dante himself. He will quote and praise Jacopo in his "De Vulgari Eloquentia" for a "Canzone" written with clean and fine style. His poems cover a period of time ranging from 1233 to 1241.
Poetic tradition flourished in Frederician court and represented a highly detached literary model from those present at that time in Italy. Until then historical documents depicted the poet as a functionary of Magna Curia around 1233 until 1240. He died around 1260 at the age of 50.
