Gilman Hall, positioned opposite the Milton S. Eisenhower Library, is the visual center of Keyser Quad, one of the most heavily trafficked areas on campus. Gilman Hall was among the first academic buildings constructed on the new Homewood Campus in 1915. It was and continues to serve as a hub of activity for the humanities departments here at Johns Hopkins. You can walk inside and admire the airy space of the Atrium, the elegant clamor of students in the Hutzler Reading Room, the artifacts in the Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum. As you do, listen to Barbara Bonnell as she tells the story of Owen Lattimore, a former professor at Johns Hopkins who was blacklisted during the 1950s, and his unexpected visit to a Phd examination.
