The ten metre yellow box gum tree was rescued from the fire and floods of Condobolin, a mining town in New South Wales during the late 1800’s.
In 2000, to celebrate Sydney’s Olympic Games, the 200 year old tree was re-located to Haymarket by the City of Sydney.
Within its twenty three carat gold and water features are the Chinese elements of fire, wood, water, earth and metal, being the Taoist principles of Qi, which is the central force of life and energy in Chinese culture.
The tree is said to bestow the local community of Haymarket with a fortuitous future as well as harmonising the natural and urban surroundings of the suburb.
