In 2009, on the site of medieval Novgorod Marketplace, a new monument was solemnly opened - the Hanseatic fountain, dedicated to the 29th International Hanseatic Days of New Time. Speaking of which, there is no such a large-scale landmark in any of the cities of the Hanseatic League.
The laconic expressive composition perfectly matches the spirit of the Yaroslav's Courtyard, where the ancient Novgorod Marketplace was once located. In the neighborhood, there were offices of overseas countries - the Gothic and German trade depots. It is a unique architectural composition, elements of which reflect the modern ideology of Hansa.
The basis of the composition is an 8-meter granite circle, which invites everyone to a dialogue on cooperation, just like a round negotiating table.
On the dark granite, there is a mosaic panel, depicting the emblems of 16 Hanseatic States - members of the Hanseatic League of New Time. A fountain spring streams in the center of the composition, whose flowing water symbolizes the constant movement, continuous renewal and life.
The central part of the composition is accompanied with granite benches and original lanterns.
