Hofje van Oorschot (Van Oorschot Courtyard)
Overview
Reviews 0

Wouter van Oorschot, a wealthy Amsterdam merchant, founded Hofje van Oorschot in the 18th century. Poor women aged 50 and over who were members of the reformed congregation found protection, safety and a degree of freedom here. The courtyard is not open to the public, but the garden can be viewed through the wrought iron gate. In the centre of the garden stands the bronze statue of Eve (of Adam) made by artist and resistance member Johan Limpers. Limpers was executed in 1944 for his role in the resistance.
