The Montanelli Bassi Foundation was constituted by will of Indro Montanelli, the most important Italian journalist of the 20th century, and it is located in Fucecchio, in the ancient Palazzo della Volta where Montanelli’s ancestors lived in medieval times. The Foundation has among its goals the conservation of the memory of Montanelli and the promotion of the studies of the artistic and environmental historical heritage of the territory. It grants the Indro Montanelli writing award and that entitled the Colette Rosselli (writer, illustrator and his wife) award dedicated to literature for children. Indro Montanelli wished that his books, his papers and the objects that had been most dear to him be preserved in the palazzo of his ancestors. So the “rooms of Montanelli” were created by transferring his Milan study and his Rome study to his place of birth. The Foundation also has a library and an auditorium. It preserves, at last, an ample collection of paintings and drawings of the artist of Fucecchio Arturo Checchi.
