The history of the city clergy is associated with the emergence of the first military fortifications in the Zailiysky territory in 1854. It was September 17, on the feast day of the Holy Martyrs Vera, Nadezhda and Lyubov and their mother Sophia, they built the city now known as Almaty. Archbishop Dimitri Abashidze established the first monastic community in 1907. Under the monastery there was given a large plot with an adjoining graveyard, which the nuns had been taking care of.

The building was built in 1908 according to the project of Y.I. Poroshin and artist-architect S.K. Troparevsky. At the same time the construction of buildings of the monastery had been started. It was called Iversky-Serafimievsky, firstly in honor of the icon of the Iverian Mother of God (Georgia was called Iveria in the old days), granted by Monastery of Moscow and brought at the request of Archbishop Dmitri Donskoi, and secondly in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarovsky. Iver icon from that time was considered the patron of the region.

In March 21, 2004, Metropolitan Methodius inaugurated the once ruined monastery. Revived Cathedral was an exact copy of the old one, and it is located at Latif Hamidi Street, 30, in the middle of the block, away from the bustle of the roads. The only difference is that it is no longer made of wood but with seismic modern materials.
