Coming up on your right is Kim Son. It’s just one restaurant in the Houston-based, family-owned Vietnamese chain. The first Houston location opened in the early ‘80s in the original Chinatown. But the very first Kim Son was in South Vietnam. The founder, Kim Su Tran La was forced to abandon her restaurant when she and her family fled for America, after the Communist regime of North Vietnam invaded. She started over in Houston, where her brand of Vietnamese cuisine quickly caught on. And the business grew from there. Now, Kim Son has four restaurants, three banquet facilities, and four food court outlets spread throughout the Houston area.
