KL Tower (Menara Kuala Lumpur)

The tall, slim tower with a round "dish" on top is the telecommunications Menara Kuala Lumpur, or simply KL Tower. If you stand at the base, your head instinctively tilts upward: it rises six hundred five meters above sea level, including the hill it's built on. Thanks to this clever "trick," the KL Tower still competes with the Petronas Towers for the title of the city's "highest point."

It was built in the 1990s, and the main purpose was not to impress tourists, but to improve communication quality. However, the tower quickly became the main attraction of Kuala Lumpur. It features an observation deck, a rotating restaurant, and even glass cabins from which all you can see beneath you is the abyss.

Interestingly, when the foundation was being laid, the builders discovered an old tree that the locals considered sacred. They didn't cut it down — instead, they shifted the construction site so the tree remained. It’s still there today, behind a little fence, like a silent guardian of the tower.

Another highlight is the base jumpers. Once a year, extreme sports enthusiasts from all over the world come here to jump off with parachutes. The spectacle is, to put it mildly, unforgettable.

So, KL Tower is not just about antennas and communication; it's about the best view of Kuala Lumpur. And not only the city view, but also a glimpse into how the capital loves to balance between traditions and its towering ambitions.
