We are now on the square Emmeramsplatz, please cross it diagonally to the left. You will see a double arch with stairs, go through the arch and move towards the entrance to the basilica. The modern church was built on the old Romanesque foundation. Today's basilica was designed by the famous Bavarian architect, Egid Quirin Asam. In the church there are the relics of St. Emmeram and St. Wolfgang. Wolfgang lived and worked in the 10th century. He served as a bishop of Regensburg and as a major landowner had to deal not only with religious matters, but also politics. With his support Prague, which had submitted to the Bishopric of Regensburg, became a bishopric itself in 973. Many rulers of Bavaria are also buried in the church. A point of interest for modern travelers is that you can see a glass coffins containing relics of Saint Maximianus and Calcidonius in the church. On the ceiling there is a very beautiful fresco. Be sure to take your time to sit on the wooden benches and admire the baroque decoration. After you've seen the inside of the church, please, go back to Emmeramsplatz and turn left into St.-Peters-Weg. Go along it to the entrance to the castle of the family of Thurn and Taxis
