The next resort settlement on our way is Komarovo (Of Mosquito). The Finnish name of this land is Kellomyaki, or the Bell Mountain. A railway station was solemnly opened in Kellomyaki on May 1, 1903. That date is celebrated as the birthday of the village.

In 1945, according to the decision of the Soviet government, the construction of a dacha settlement for academics began under the supervision of an acclaimed Soviet architect Schusev. In 1948, Kellomyaki was renamed to Komarovo as a tribute to Vladimir Komarov, President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and a distinguished biologist.

During the Soviet times, Komarovo gained the status of an artistic workshop of the Soviet Union. Creative centres of writers, artists, composers, and filmmakers were working here. Composers Dmitry Shostakovich and Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi, fiction writers Ivan Efremov, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, writer Yuri German and his son Aleksei who will become a film director, and many others enjoyed going vacation here.

The necropolis of Komarovo is a tragic local landmark. Many people of art and science are buried here, such as Dmitry Likhachev, a scientist, Anna Akhmatova, a poet, and others.

The Komarovsky Bereg (Komarovo Coast) nature sanctuary is situated on the territory of Komarovo, it offers an exciting tour to those interested in ecology and nature.
