The Conti Calepio Castle dominates the Oglio Valley and the suggestive fortified village of Calepio. The original structure was commissioned, around 1430, by Count Trussardo who, for his merits in favour of the Republic of Venice, received the feudal possession of the territory, which still today bears his name: Val Calepio. Over the years, the manor was transformed from a military garrison into an elegant noble residence, of which rooms decorated with appreciable paintings and valuable stuccos are preserved, where important artists of the time worked. Furthermore, the house overlooks the river with a beautiful Italian terrace-garden. Curiosity: in 1502 Trussardo's son, Ambrogio da Calepio, published a famous dictionary called "Calepino".
Trebecco Castle, located on a spur of rock overlooking the river Oglio, is undoubtedly one of the oldest castles in the Lower Lake Iseo area, whose presence is already documented in 1032. The fortress belonged to the Alberico family, captains of Martinengo, later called counts of Calepio, who remained owners of the manor until 1811. Of the ancient castle, with adjoining fortified village, the original plan is preserved, with the court, residences and defence works. Castel Trebecco is today one of the best preserved examples of medieval architecture, with corners of intense suggestion and simple beauty.
Grumello Castle, given its strategic position, was probably built around the year 1000 as a military fortress with a watchtower. It dominates the village of Grumello del Monte and the Val Calepio. Since 1953, it has belonged to the Reschigna Kettlitz family of Milan, which has given new impetus to the winemaking tradition of the area. Today the Castle is part of the “Castelli e Ville Aperti in Lombardia” Association and the cellar is part of the “Movimento Turismo del Vino Lombardo”.
