Great Maharshal and Maharama Synagogue (non-existent, at non-existent 5 Jateczna Street, on the north side of the castle hill). - The brick synagogue was erected by privilege of King Sigismund Augustus (August 25, 1567), probably on the site of an earlier wooden synagogue. It was a grand, one-story Renaissance-style building on an irregular rectangular plan, covered with a triple-pitched broken roof, adjacent to the northern slope of the castle hill. The synagogue was called Maharshal- shul in honor of the rector of the Lublin yeshiva - Rabbi Shlomo ben Yechiel Luria, called Maharshal. In the early 17th century. A smaller synagogue, named Maharam- shul - in honor of Rabbi Meir ben Gedalia - was added to the body of the synagogue on the south side. After the destruction caused by the Cossack-Moscow invasion of 1655. The building has been remodeled. In 1854. Due to construction negligence, the vaults collapsed. The Renaissance-Baroque interior was severely damaged. In 1856-1864 the synagogue was rebuilt - it was given classicist features. In 1942. was demolished by the Germans. In its place today runs a multi-lane roadway, and the building is commemorated only by a small plaque, built into the slope of the castle hill.
