Maruyama Park (円山公園)

Maruyama Park is a beautiful public park that becomes the most popular and crowded centre of the city in spring, when the cherry blossom season starts. In fact, there are about 680 cherry trees. Maruyama Park is also the oldest park in Kyoto.

One of the best places of the park is a very big and old cherry tree, located at the centre of Maruyama. It is said to be almost 100 years old and to be growing from another tree that was 300 years old.

All the area is full of ponds (a type of small lake), bridges and vegetation. There are some amazing buildings here too: Yasaka Shrine is the main entrance of the park, where you can also find other stages and different buildings, while in the north there are two little temples called Chion-in and Shōren-in. You can find other attractions such as shops to buy traditional drinks and food, a concert hall and even a restaurant.

Maruyama Park is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic with your loved ones! It’s opened all day and night and totally free.
