DoB: 1889 | DoD: 27 June 1966 | Plot: A1-90
Matilda, 77, a Protestant widow, was the first woman to die as a result of the conflict in Northern Ireland, when a petrol bomb intended for the public house next door engulfed her house on 10 May 1966. Matilda, who suffered from arthritis and walked with crutches, had gone to bed downstairs. She was severely burned and remained in hospital until her death 48 days later.
