Mausoleum is located in Sayram suburb of Shymkent. This is a tomb of Sheikh Ibrahim, father of the holy Sufi Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. It is included in the list of architectural monuments of republican significance of Kazakhstan.
In the Middle Ages Sayram became one of the centers of Islam propaganda, many spiritual mentors and scholars lived there. One of them was Ibrahim ata, who set thousands of disciples on the spiritual path. He was engaged in agriculture. There are legends about his holiness and extraordinary gift of the seer.
In the middle of the 19th century. as a result of the earthquake, the dome of mausoleum collapsed. At the beginning of the 20th century. the failed roof was restored in a simplified configuration.
In the early 1990s, the government of independent Kazakhstan allocated funds for restoration work. As a result, the road running along the walls of mausoleum was moved 20 meters away, and the building was fortified with a layer of earth at the base.
Mausoleum is located on the outskirts of the northwestern part of Sayram, on a high hill by the road to the village of Aksu. This medieval architecture monument is one of the earliest extant domed mausoleums in the region.
