One of the most characteristic things about Meltemee wind, is that once the sun is rising, the wind starts picking up, and the pick of each power is during midday, and wen the sun is at the higher level. Once the sun is preparing to sunset, Meltemee starts dying slowly. During the day could reach 35 knots. during the night is completely dead. If you notice that the Meltemee continues blowing during the night, and even if it's very light, usually this is a sign that the next day the wind will be very strong. Meltemee wind, generally belongs to the category of seasonal winds. Some years starts in May or June, and it ends in October or September. It is affected by the weather conditions prevailing at Balkans and Middle East. For example, if strong rains and floods affecting Central Europe and the Balkans, the Meltemee will not work. The months with the strongest wind and frequency are July and August. From the time the Meltemee starts, will keeps blowing in average for a week. But in 2008, one of the longest periods was recorded, were the Meltemee was blowing for 46 days non stop. As gas masses traveling to Aegean sea through Europe, they dry out, resulting to a brighter sky and better visibility conditions. In Cyclades islands, the wind is always stronger compare to any other place of Aegean sea. The ancient Greeks they called it Etisios, a name coming by the word Etos, which means, year, or yearly. The first historical written report about the meltemee was made between 384 and 322 BC by Aristotle,  in his research named Meteorological.
