This memorial to the Don Cossacks of Ataman Platov was, like that to Uvarov’s men, installed only 1985, and for the same reason. The monument comprises a granite memorial boulder. Ataman Platov received no commendation for his valour at Borodino, despite his Cossack brigade acting successfully during their now-legendary raid. They skirted the left flank of Napoleon’s army, crossing the Voina River, and went into the forest – where they raised panic in the French rearguard. As a result of the raid, Platov’s Cossacks took more than 250 prisoners.
