The idea of establishing a monument to the founders of the Kazakh Khanate Kerey and Zhanibek belongs to the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
A monumental cultural composition is located in the center of Astana - in the square of the Museum of the First President.
The monument was opened in June 2010.
Composite monument is two figures of complex shape, located on the pedestal. The images of the two khans symbolize the triumph of freedom, the birth of a new khanate and the beginning of a new life.
Kerey, on the rights of the first khan of the Kazakhs, is depicted sitting on a saddle, just taken off the khan's horse. Zhanibek Khan personifies courage, pride and strength. In the composition there is also a uniting sculptural element in the form of a banner, towering high in the hands of the great khans.
The total height of the monument from the base to the crown of the banner is 12 meters, the height of the figure of Zhanibek Khan in full height is 5.25 meters, with the plinth - 5.45 meters. The height of the sitting figure of Kerey Khan is 4 meters.
All elements of the composition are made together in a common secure of pure bronze. The total weight of the monument is 16.2 tons. The author of the monument is the Kazakh sculptor Tohtar Ermekov.
