Bust of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Khalyk Kaharmany (People’s Hero of Kazakhstan ) Sagadat Nurmagambetov, was opened on May 30, 2014 on the area of Zhas Ulan school, which bears his name these days.
Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich Nurmagambetov - First Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1992-1995), Hero of the Soviet Union (1945), People's Hero of Kazakhstan (1994), General of the Army of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1993).
He was born in the village of Trudovoi, where he graduated from 7 classes and then worked as head of a village reading room on a collective farm (KOLKHOZ).
In 1942, Sagadat Nurmagambetov was drafted into the Red Army literally from school and was sent to the military academyin the city of Kushk in Turkmenistan. Within a year of graduation, from April, 1943 until May, 1945 he fought in the great Patriotic war as the commander of a machine-gun platoon, the commander of a machine-gun company the commander of a rifle battalion of the 1052nd infantry regiment of the 301st Donetsk order of Suvorov II degree of the Berlin rifle division of the 5th shock army. He participated in the liberation of the Krasnodar Territory, Ukraine, Moldova, Western Belarus and Poland.
On February 27, 1945 Sagadat Nurmagambetov was awarded the honorary title of “Hero of the Soviet Union” (medal №5214) for exemplary performance of combat missions during the breakthrough of the highly fortified enemy defenses on the territory of Poland.
Nurmagambetov attended the Frunze Military Academy from June 1946 until his graduation from the Academy in November 1949. In the Soviet Army, he was awarded the military ranks of "Major General" (1964) and "Lieutenant General" (1972).
In 1989, after the dissolution of the district, Sagadat Nurmagambetov has been chosen to lead Kazakhstan’s committee on the disabled and military veterans' affairs and at the same time the Chairman of the Committee of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR on Veterans and Disabled Affairs of the Armed Forces.
In October, 1991, he was appointed to head Kazakhstan's State Defense Committee by the decree of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in May 1992, was named the first Defense Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was awarded the military rank of "Colonel General" (1992) and "Army General" (May 5, 1993).
On 23rd of May in 1994, Sagadat Nurmagambetov was awarded the title of Halyk Kaharmany (People’s Hero) with the award of the Golden Star Number 1 by the decree of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazrbayev.
