Moshkov Pereulok, or Moshkov Lane, runs for 220 metres from Palace Embankment to the Moyka. It bears the name of Pyotr Moshkov, Privy Purse to Empress Elizabeth I. The lane contains two houses he had owned. One is at Number 20, building 2, at the intersection of Palace Embankment and Moshkov Lane. In the C19th the write Count Vasily Sollogub lived there. The lane was renamed multiple times – as Stables Lane, and Zaporozhsky Lane. But the names didn’t catch on, and at the end of the C20th it was officially renamed Moshkov Lane once more.
