The National Capitol of Colombia is the seat of the National Congress, the highest legislative body of the Republic of Colombia. It is located on the south side of the Bolívar Plaza, in the historic center of Bogotá.
The capitol was originally designed by Thomas Reed at the request of President Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, it was built between 1848 and 1926 and several architects were in charge. It is one of the most representative buildings of republican and neoclassical architecture in the city. It was also declared a National Monument by decree 1584 of August 11, 1975. Its construction began in 1846 and could only be completed until 1926. work had to be paused 19 years by the civil war in 1851
The Capitolio with privileged location and historical and cultural interest, has in itself several attractions that are hidden in its history and architecture.
