The construction of the third stage of the Moscow Metro hadn’t been stopped even during the Great Patriotic War. Completed section of the subway line could not be brought into service because of delays in the delivery of escalators. Due to the fact that the plant which produced escalators was located in beleaguered Leningrad. The order was transferred to Moscow enterprises. Escalators for the deep stations of the third stage metro line were received only on the summer of 1943 and the Novokuznetskaya metro station was opened on November 20, 1943. The authors of the station, the spouses Ivan Taranov and Nadezhda Bykova, placed bas-reliefs with episodes of military operations, shields with profiles of the great Russian generals Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Alexander Suvorov and banners with the inscriptions “Glory to the heroic defenders of Leningrad, Sevastopol, Stalingrad, Odessa”. Also there are gypsum friezes with figures of Soviet pilots, tankmen and infantrymen. Military symbols were also used in the design of the station from the platform side. There are stars, banners, cartouches with inscriptions, weapons, laurel branches of winners. In the center of the station there are mosaics dedicated to peaceful life.
