! The building as a tourist site can only be viewed from the outside.

The 27-meter-high Odukalns water tower is a historical legacy of Soviet industrialization and rural development. It used to supply water to the Old Ķekava residential buildings. The name “Old Ķekava” originated in the late 1960s. It marks the part of Ķekava that has historically developed first and stretches on the right bank of the Ķekava River, as opposed to the village of “New Ķekava,” which grew during the construction of the poultry factory. The water tower was built according to the project of Liesma Skuja, the architect of the collective farm “Ķekava.” To ensure continuity for monolithic concreting, they built a special sliding formwork. And to create a lasting coloring of the red cube of the water tower, half of the USSR was travelled in search of the right color. Slightly faded, the color still persists more than three decades later. The water tower is located in a historical place – next to the foundations of the Friedrich Tower. This tower, in turn, was a memorial to the events of the War of 1812. Today, Odukalns water tower is no longer used as a water reservoir, it only serves for communications, and currently can only be seen from the outside.
