When the Paleis voor Volksvlijt burned to the ground at the 18th of April 1929, people spoke over a lost for the cultural and social world, but also about the most beautiful fire Amsterdam had ever seen. The whole city came to watch the fire that faithful night. The Paleis voor Volksvlijt was a typical late 19th century building, with a lot of glass and steel. The building was used for cultural events. Sadly, the building was never rebuilt.
