Perry-Dudley House: These three federal-style houses, along with the 1892 probation office and county records building form one of Exeter’s best architectural ensembles. The earliest structure, the Sullivan Sleeper house (built in 1809 for George Sullivan). George Sullivan was the one who lived in the Sullivan Sleeper house and his job was to be both a lawyer and a politician. The 1826 Gardener House was built for a man named John Gardner. The final house was built circa 1815 for two generations of doctors and was called the Perry-Dudley House. The oldest one in this house was a man named William Perry, who was a pioneer in engineering humane treatment of mental illness. - 42S
