Poquonock River
Overview
Reviews 0

The Poquonock River is a two-mile-long estuary, where saltwater from the Long Island Sound and freshwater from the Groton Reservoir mix and serves as a home to many varieties of saltwater finfish, shellfish, and shorebirds. Many people recreationally harvest hard and soft shell clams, oysters, winter flounder, fluke, bluefish, tautog, black sea bass, scup, and striped bass from the river. The causeway next to the parking lot was originally built as a railroad spur between Groton and a large freight complex that had been just northeast of the Bluff Point parking lot.
