Red Light district

Across the street, you can see the red-light district which is open nowadays. This street is called “The Weaze”, it has been the dark area of Leeuwarden for many years. There are six brothels in the buildings on the canal and the vague alleys behind it. More than 120 small tendon rooms are hidden behind the facades. After the brothel ban was lifted in 2000, the "red light district" became quite visible in Leeuwarden. Now that there is more openness, there are also more articles about it in the media. On your right, you can see one of these brothels, the Red Light, also called “Love and Joy”.
