One of the historical corners in Long Prairie is known as the Reichert Hotel property. The Reichert Hotel property was founded by Ignatius Reichert in 1869. There have been five different hotel buildings on this corner starting with a small log building, to the present brick structure. A number of these buildings were destroyed by fire. The last fire taking place in March 1902 which completely destroyed the property and the drug store which was a large frame building on the east side of the hotel building occupied by Reichert and Schenk Drug company. The Reichert and Schenk Drug Store at one time bought pianos by the carload and conducted a retail piano business along with Edison and Victor photographs for a number of years.
The current hotel building was constructed in 1903 by the Reichert Improvement Company at a cost of $40,000.00, and had been occupied and rented to many different businesses. The building has been rehabilitated using federal preservation tax incentives. Work included cleaning and repainting the exterior masonry, replacing windows, installing a new roof, and returning thelobby and hallways to their original appearance. The building now houses residential apartments.
