Introduction
The main station of the Rack Train of Núria line is in the centre of the village of Ribes de Freser and that is why it is called Ribes-Vila. This is where the operative centre of the rack train is situated along with the wagons and the workshops.
In addition to the four stations, the train line that connects Ribes de Freser with Núria has a halt, that of Rialb, and a siding in Fontalba. According to the historians, the construction of the halt of Rialb is connected to a curious anecdote: it seems that the owner of the land that the train crosses in that section demanded a private halt in exchange for the transfer of his lands.

We are at Ribes Vila station, where the Rack Train Museum of the Vall de Núria is, and where we can delve into the history of the Val de Núria Rack Train. You can board the oldest locomotives: "la Geperuda", the Electric E-3 in its original state as well as the saloon wagon, considered a luxury wagon and decorated with fine materials, and which still runs on special occasions.
Work on the rack train route began in 1928 and its first journey was on the 22nd of March 1931. The route of the line, with 5 tunnels and several viaducts is 12 and a half kilometres long, the final seven of which are with rack traction.
