ABOUT THE CITY - an interactive exhibition about interesting facts of architecture and urban planning in Rivne, created within the project "Street Workshop of the City of Rivne" with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
Glass building of the roofed market in Rivne created by Kyiv architect Alla Anishchenko is known for its innovative approach to design and construction in the era of modernism (1979). There are only four such market structures in Ukraine, namely in Rivne, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Cherkassy.
As Alla Anischenko told: "A circle is the optimal solution for a roofed trading establishment. Firstly, it is half-price of a traditional reinforced concrete structure, and secondly, with a round shape each trade place receives larger capacity. In total the markets of such a design contain up to 500 trade places. This solution makes it possible to economize the city territory by means of placing the premises on three levels - basement, ground floor and on the balcony."
According to the kanons of modernism, all of them were originally placed on a free territory, among lawns and alleys. The light, transparent "drum" instantly became the dominant of the square. In the 90s with a free market, the buildings were instantly surrounded with stands and shopping pavilions, which they still, cannot get rid of up to now.
